World War 1 Flamethrower
The flamethrower, there were weapons like the flamethrower dated back to the 5th century B.C. but it was credited to a German scientist named Richard Fiedler in 1901. The main idea of the flamethrower was to shoot fire by launching burning fuel. There were two kinds of flamethrowers the Kleinflammenwerfer and the Grossflammenwerfer. The Kleinflammenwerfer was lightweight and a single man could hold it while the Grossflammenwerfer was larger than the Kleinflammenwerfer and could be held by a single man, and the first time it was used was in October 1914 against the french in the southeast western front. it was used for combat and to clear land.
Impact and Consequences
The flamethrower made a big impact on world war one, World War 2 and Vietnam. The way that it impacted people was that leaders had to rethink the strategy defensively and offensively. Also it made the French and the British to make their own version of the flamethrower. The soldiers had to worry about getting burned alive by this weapon. In a surprise attack against the British flamethrowers were used and it lead to the death of 31 British officers. But there also some pretty bad consequences that came with the flamethrowers If the fuel tank shot got shot it would explode or it could just explode at any given time it was used.
Connections to Today
The modern day flamethrower, It has improved greatly from World War one. First of all it can just unexpectedly explode. And it can shoot fire longer than forty seconds like in World War one. Now flamethrowers are used around the world mostly for a military purpose. They are still used today for clearing out space, for combat and to burn things down.
